How the Internet Influenced Global Commerce

by: glennevans on Date: Mon, 13 Dec 2010 Time: 1:23 PM

The Internet is one of the most revolutionary inventions ever made by humans. The Internet’s impact on the way people communicate is extraordinary. What already connected countries and territories have further improved connectivity through a network of websites, enabling people to interact with each other almost in real time.

Nowhere can the impact of the Internet be as great as that on global commerce. Prior to the advent of the Internet, businesses rely on very traditional methods of marketing and selling products or services. The emergence of the Internet changed all of that.

With the wider reach and scope of the Internet, businesses now open their own websites. It was through the websites where they advertise their products or services to a much larger number of potential clients. They also adopt a variety of new marketing strategies, ranging from Internet memes to putting up pages on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to contracting search engine optimization (SEO) companies to make their websites visible on search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.

Search engine optimization of a business’ website can be done in-house by hiring employees who will be assigned for that particular task. However, most businesses prefer to outsource their SEO needs to an Indianapolis search engine optimization company and other similar firms that will do the task on their behalf. Whichever of the two is chosen, the business’ main goal is to stand out from the online competition.

Aside from doing SEO in-house or by outsourcing it to an Indianapolis SEO company, a business will also try to hire consultants who will create effective marketing strategies that can be used for online campaigns. These campaigns are usually targeted to a specific consumer market that the business wishes to tap for to market its products or services. Some online campaign pitches may include online contests and the spread of viral videos that will help make Internet users aware of the existence of the business and the products or services that it is selling.

The Internet has definitely changed the way humans do business. The existence of businesses that wanted to exploit the promising potential of the Internet and those that businesses that benefit from these businesses such as SEO services Indiana and social networking sites is proof of how much influence the Internet currently has over global commerce.
