The Value of Outsourcing your Marketing

by: woolleythomas98 on Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2011 Time: 8:48 PM

We all like to think we know everything we need to know about running a business. However, if we are not careful, we will make mistakes we can never recover from. Every day thousands of companies spanning the country waste millions of marketing dollars on inefficient, under-performing marketing channels. They market in the wrong areas with the wrong message, using the wrong channel mix and thus receive little in return.

A restaurant catering to an older demographic, for example, should not solely focus its marketing budget on search engine optimization techniques given that a large percentage of its target audience has never even used a search engine before. A night club, however, will most likely get more bang for its buck by using online mediums such as Google and social media that are used much more frequently by its younger demographic. Yet you would be shocked to learn how many restaurants spend hundreds of dollars a month advertising online and how many night clubs spend hundreds of dollars a month advertising in newspapers that their target market does not read. It is an inefficient use of resources that could easily be corrected if these companies began using outsourced marketing departments to manage their marketing budgets. Too often companies don't embrace the idea of outsourced marketing because they think that marketing consists of designing ads and coming up with catchy slogans. However, in today's day and age where marketing is undergoing a revolution the likes we've never seen, it is more important than ever to partner with an outsourced marketing firm that can act as your guide by selecting the tools and channels that work best for your business type.

To think of this in a way that hits home to many of us, let's take a look at an exercise as simple as paying our taxes. There's a reason every year we send all our financial information to an accountant. Sure, we can do our taxes ourselves with TurboTax and online help, but many of us want the peace of mind knowing everything is done right and all deductions are maximized so that we get every penny back that we can. Similarly, to ensure marketing dollars are spent as efficiently as possible, hiring an advertising agency can be a smart solution. An ad agency will help maximize your marketing spend, resulting in more brand awareness and more customers. Ad agencies are typically SEO specialists, design experts and experienced media buyers who also have the knowledge and experience to negotiate better advertising rates.

Hiring an outsourced marketing team can be a great deal for any company, and it is an option that any business owner should think about seriously if he or she wants their company to grow. The economy may still be stagnating, but there are always ways companies can innovate and grow. Partnering with an experienced ad agency or outsourced marketing firm is certainly an option that should not be overlooked.
