Relationships-Building a good relationship with all the people around you are imperative to being a successful leader. Learn to listen when your people are talking to you. Occasionally repeat something back to them so they know that you are listening and that you are wanting to understand exactly what they are trying to say. Every person will have problems and concerns, and they will all have things that they enjoy talking about. Let them vent about their problems and discuss their passions with you. Converse with them as well. Tell them things about you so they know you are human. Let them know that you are a unique person, just like them. This will set as a leader that people respect. Respect means hardworking most of the time.
Public- An aspect of marketing that many people forget, because of technology and its advancements, is that the consumer is the number one reason that you are doing what you are doing. You, and your team, need to build good relationships with the customers. Without them, you will have no business, which means no income. Angry customers need to be acknowledged and listened to. 8 out of 10 customers simply want to be heard and acknowledged. The others will want to be heard, acknowledged, and compensated for their problems. As a marketing leader you may not have to deal with this aspect of public service, but if you do, remember the golden rule. The customer is always right, even if they are not right.

Flexible- As a leader you must be flexible. Adapting to the world around you is a talent that you must either have or learn. Follow the trends and the analysis reports that you get and stay ahead of the market. Changes come fast, so you will need to be faster. This also is applied to the people working for you. Things come up. People get sick. Families need vacations. You need to be able to make changes on the fly that will maximize the proficiency of the people that show up. Prioritize the daily tasks and get them knocked out, one at a time, starting with the most important ones first.
Becoming a leader is hard work. You must be calm and professional no matter what challenges may come. Be honest, humble, and most importantly, be human.
