Updated: Nov 5, 2022

The ‘New Language’ of TikTok

TikTok came on the scene in 2016 and BLEW UP in 2020 when the world shut down.

Creative people had no ‘outlet’ for their creativity & began turning to TikTok, the video platform, as their ‘new’ place to be creative.

And, those of us, non-creatives, turned to TikTok to be entertained, educated, and connected to these other people, who were making the content.

Here are 2 MIND-BLOWING Stats to Check-Out about TikTok:

  • ALMOST 33% (32.1%) of US Based Users are OVER THE AGE of 40yo+.

  • The AVERAGE time that people spend on TikTok is 95 minutes. Facebook, in 2nd place, = 33minutes. Instagram, in 3rd, 26 minutes.

Along with this ‘new platform’ are new vocabulary words to know.

Here are a few of the Main TikTok Vocabulary Words to Know:

  1. Stitch TikTok Stitch you can combine two videos together and make a new one. This is a fun way to share information with other creators and create some really creative content. Plus, jumping on another creator's trend is a great way to gain more views and followers.

  2. Duet Duet is a video that has another video next to yours - these clips are seen on a split screen at the same time

Also, another great way to gain more views and followers.

  1. Trending We ALL know what ‘trending’ means, however with TikTok, the TikTok Trends happen QUICKLY & can be anything that is being watched, re-watched, shared, or re-posted by many people around the world.
