First steps every beginner should take when starting out in affiliate marketing

Working from home has become the new norm and there’s potential to make some serious money if you learn all the techniques and how to execute them in the right way.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most highly sought after ‘work from home’ kind of role as it has such a tiny start up cost and you can quite literally work from your kitchen table.

With so many people turning to affiliate marketing on a daily basis, the competition is fierce, however there’s plenty of space for everyone, even if you just want to make some extra pocket money on the side.

So where do you start?

Follow the money

Tons of bloggers and influencers make a packet out of their followers and can even make a decent salary out of what they do. But, contrary to the popular ‘post about your passion’ advice, it’s more about looking at what people are buying. That is where all the money is hidden.

Instead of pondering for days thinking about what you are passionate about, instead take the time to look at what products are hot, which ones make the highest return and where the hype in the market is.

These are the kind of products you want to be featuring in order to get noticed and start making some money.

Finding a platform

Affiliate marketing doesn’t necessarily have to be page after page of writing. Just because one other marketer has found profound success in the world of writing doesn’t mean you will.

Everyone finds their own way and that’s going to be the way that works for you.

Putting on too much false pretence can be smelt even through a screen so stay as natural as possible, even though you are trying to make money.

There are many ways of creating content to make money from, writing text is just one way. You can also use social media for photo-based content like Instagram, or go big on videos with Youtube. Just watch out for all the special requirements which may restrict you from money as quickly as you’d like. For example, this e-comm website that sells gadgets has a neat platform with lots of blogs,

Before choosing a platform for your new affiliate marketing business, let’s take a closer look at what each platform has to offer.

Videos

Videos can reach huge audiences with very little effort. Streaming platforms online have become a staple modern world activity which can educate, inform and of course sell to the mass audience.

Starting out in making videos doesn’t have to be an expensive hobby, and it can even be done with your smartphone. Many mobile phones now have cameras which can easily match DSLR cameras, but they are of course more manoeuvrable and easy to transport.

Video content can vary largely depending on what you have chosen to target as your sale piece. Don’t go buying items for the sake of it, use the purchases you are making yourself to save yourself some money at first, then branch out to expand your catalogue of videos which can appeal to more viewers.

Blogging

By far one of the most well known forms of affiliate marketing, blogs have sprung up all over the world and cover any niche you could possibly think of.

If you have the gift of the gab or have the time to write an engaging string of articles this could be the alley for you.

Blogging has multiple free platforms across the Internet and you could be up and going in minutes. A great method if you are testing the affiliate marketing waters.
