BRIEF HISTORY:
In 1972, the cruise industry pioneer Ted Arison formed Carnival Cruise lines and thence, the Carnival Corporation came into existence in 1994.
From 1989 to 1999, this was the period when the company acquired Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, Seabourn cruise line, and Windstar Cruises. The name Carnival Corporation & plc was adopted to distinguish the flagship cruise line subsidiary from its parent company.
P&O Princess Cruises plc was formed in 2000 under the cruise ship division of the P&O group which was the pioneer to operate the commercial cruise ships in the world. The company acquired Princess cruises in 1974, further acquired AIDA cruises and established A'Rosa cruises, and Ocean Village brands following the demerger in the 20th century.
In 2003, the P&O Princess Cruises plc was acquired by Carnival Corporation and renamed as Carnival plc. Meanwhile, the two companies Carnival corporation, and Carnival plc merged into a single company.
In 2005, CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping, the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and the China Investment Corporation were founded. The operations to these were expected to commence in 2019.
In 2018, Carnival Corporation announced an investment in a new terminal in Japan which was expected to open in 2020.
